Davidia Delights

May 18th - 31st.  10am to 5pm

Batsford is home to what’s widely regarded as one of the biggest, oldest and best Davidia Tree’s in the country and should be at its very best during this time.

Marvel at thousands of white handkerchief-like bracts as the tree takes centre stage in the arboretum during May and pick up your own specimen from the Plant Centre to take home with you.

The Big Batsford Bat Walk

May 23rd.  8 - 10pm

Intrigued by bats and keen to learn more about where and how they live?

Come along to the Big Batsford Bat Walk in the Arboretum and discover everything you ever wanted to know about these shy little creatures with our Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust expert.

Tickets cost £10 with half the money going to support the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s work.

Father's Day.  Sunday 16th June

Why not treat yourself to a sumptuous meal in the Garden Terrace Café at Batsford and soak up the sunshine on our al fresco deck?

There’s free entry for Dad’s to the arboretum and a whole host of fabulous plants in the Garden Centre – the perfect gift for green-fingered Dad’s!

We've got a fantastic menu in the cafe on their special day too!

Choose from Roasted topside of beef, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, braised red cabbage and mixed vegetables; Smoked haddock and spring onion fishcake, homemade tartare sauce, potatoes and vegetables or Slow baked tomato, caramalised red onion and basil tart topped with mozzarella cheese.

Moth Night at Batsford.

Monday 1st July.  8.30pm onwards

It’s the time of year when moths are most active – the perfect time to learn about these fascinating nocturnal insects.  Join Warwickshire moth expert Bob Cox with his team of rangers as we discover more about our native moths.  After an introductory presentation there’ll be demonstrations of trapping techniques in the arboretum followed by inspections and recordings of the moths we’ve found.  The event will go on until well past midnight but please feel free to leave whenever you wish.

‘As You Like It’ – outdoor Shakespeare in the arboretum.

July 11th 2013.  School matinee at 1pm.  Evening performance at 7pm.

A unique opportunity to see the all-male company, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men perform Shakespeare’s beautiful summer comedy ‘As You Like It’ in the wonderful setting of Batsford Arboretum.  The play that gave us ‘All the worlds a stage’ features warring brothers, clowns, comic peasants, romance, death threats, escape and even a wrestling match!  In fact there’s something for everyone all set against the backdrop of Batsford Arboretum.  The Lord Chamberlain's Men specialise in performing Shakespeare exactly as he intended using beautiful settings to add to the atmosphere and we’re delighted to be holding the event during the inaugural Moreton Artweeks Event.  Gates open an hour before each performance so bring your own picnic and rug, settle down and enjoy magical theatre in a magical venue.
Matinee tickets cost £10.  Evening tickets cost £16 for adults and £10 for children, Students and concessions £10.  Tickets are non-refundable and the performance will go ahead except in severe weather conditions.

The Big Batsford Bug Hunt.

Throughout August 10am to 5pm. £1.50 per child + arboretum entrance fee.

Get out and about and find the creepy crawlies hidden around our beautiful Arboretum!  They’re hard to find but worth the hunt.  Discover 8 of the 10 bugs we’ve hidden, mark their location on our map using stickers provided and pick up a goodie bag!   Children must be accompanied by an adult for whom the normal arboretum entrance fee applies.

Spend the day with garden designer, author and lecturer Andrew Mikolajski at beautiful Batsford Arboretum.  After coffee and introductions you’ll hear Andrew’s thoughts on gardening and where Batsford fits into the wider picture and enjoy a guided tour of the Arboretum itself.  After a light lunch you’ll hear about wildflowers and the importance of encouraging more wildlife to your garden before a question and answer session over a cup of tea.  There’ll even be time to browse the beautiful gift, garden shop and plant centre at Batsford for a spot of retail therapy!

Batsford Celebrates Gold Award

Sunday 18th August. 11am to 4pm.

Find out why we’re the best Large Visitor Attractions in the Cotswolds by visiting on this special day.  Cotswold Tourism awarded us gold in this prestigious annual competition so we want to celebrate.  Soak up summer in our beautiful arboretum or enjoy a live performance of The Wind In The Willows in the arboretum at 1pm or 2.30pm.  There’ll be face painting for the kids and a very special ‘gold award’ treat in the Garden Terrace Café while stocks last!

Batsford’s Big Bulb Bonanza

Wednesday 18th September. 7pm to 9pm.

Join multi award-winning bulb producer Johnny Walkers and discover how autumn planted bulbs can bring colour to your garden for more than five months of the year!  Winner of 19 Chelsea gold medals, Johnny will help you choose the best bulbs for your garden, how to plant them and tips about aftercare.  Refreshments will be available and there’s a discount on the night from our wide selection of spring flowering bulbs available in the Garden Shop.  This is a free event but numbers are limited so please call us on 01386 701441 to secure your place.
